Case Studies
Get Ready Sapphire Coast – Website
On 18 March 2018, a bush fire swept through Tathra on the Sapphire Coast NSW, claiming 65 homes, damaging 48 more and displacing approximately 700 residents and visitors. Following the Tathra & District fire, a case study was undertaken by an independent research group that identified that what happened to Tathra, could happen to any number of other coastal communities that rely heavily on tourism, especially considering that the peak tourism period in most coastal areas occurs at the same time as the highest bushfire risk period.
TDA was engaged to produce a digital resource that would provide the tools for Sapphire Coast NSW businesses and stakeholders to educate, evaluate and prepare for future emergency situations.
The Brief
Develop an Emergency Management Planning digital resource for businesses of the Sapphire Coast NSW.
The Approach
The Destination Agency developed:
- ‘Get Ready Sapphire Coast’ Crisis Management Hub website that provided educational material, external resources, downloadable toolkits and government resources
- Media and PR activity
The Outcome
The website provided digestible and actionable content for Sapphire Coast NSW businesses within the visitor economy and beyond.
The Result
The Get Ready Sapphire Coast website provided a Crisis Management resource for not only post 2018 Tathra & District fire but subsequently the 2020 Black Summer Fires and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The resource is ongoing. See the website here.
